All over the world there is something such as "cities", which is a certificate indicating that the animal comes from a breeder and that the natural environment is not distrubed. I would like to have two turtles too. So in total with Mahesh we would like to have 4 land turtles.
@umi: How do you get your turtles?

I know about cities, which is some kind of international certificate to show that the animal is coming from a breeder. I also would like to have 2 turtles, but I do not want to do something forbidden.
@Umi: Where do you get your turtles from?

I just came from a pet store and they had a baby turtle about a year old and it was just under 4 inches in size. Its shell was a real light beige in color and a real pretty square pattern. Any ideas what kind it was?
Thanks

turtles are banned and so are tortoises.
They say they confiscate and release them back in wild. But any figures about their survival after release or is it just a gimick of a FEEL GOOD FACTOR on the part of the so called animal lovers.
No one screams or goes to the Gir jungles when the lions are killed and are facing extinction and noone wants to take onus for any animals in wild but are happy feeding the strays and teaching love of nature in the cities.
Why not have a good zoo supported by corporates and teaching and instilling the true importance of nature in our lives.
I have a couple of turtles and tortoises and am scared that somebody would take them away and leave them/ abandon them in the wild forests under the guise of animal protection.
Please let me know if you would like to care for them.

I' m interested in getting a land turtle that doesn't grow any larger than 5 inches and is inexpensive (35.00). Does anyone have a recommendation? I want to keep it in an indoor aquarium or something similar. I appreciate any help you can offer. Thanks

I go with a few people who said it's better to own them oneself than having it left to hunt for itself in the wild. On one side you have the advantage of preserving its eggs from predators and on the other could take good care of the tortoise thus helping it come off the endangered species status. Kudos to all of you who own a turtle or tortoise. I wish I had one. mailaquabay@gmail.com
