Visvesvaraya Technological University granted Autonomous Status to MSRIT, for both UG and PG Programmes, in the year 2007, and the same was approved by UGC also.

Intel Center of Excellence: International microprocessor giant Intel agreed with RIT to open a Centre of Excellence in January 2010. The event was attended by Scott Ape land who is the Director of Developer Networks at Intel, USA. The program aims at faculty development and inclusion of Intel processors in the curricula of RIT. This center is the only one of its kind in Karnataka.
