Gandhi Institute of Technology and Management, popularly known as GITAM was founded in 1980 by an inspired group of eminent intellectuals and industrialists of Andhra Pradesh led by Dr.M.V.V.S.Murthi, Former Member of Parliament and popular philanthropist .

Centre for Distance Learing, GITAM University offers admissions into B.A. and B.Com programmes under flexible system in both Telugu and English media. Formal Education is not required and one who had completed 18 years of age and has the ability to read and write Engilsh. Candidates will be selected for the course after they qualify in an entrance test. The flexible system for B.A. and B.Com study was introduced to take education to as many people as possible, particularly the rural areas and poor.
Centre for Distance Learing was also giving special focus on good placement for the students and will give guidance in personality development and career planning for the students.

Apart from the contact classes, weekend contact hours will be organized at various study centres established by it across Andhra Pradesh. During which the students will directly interact with the faculty to discuss academic and career issues.


Distance education is a powerful and growing force in education at University level. In distance education the student is remote from the campus, and is educated through a mixture of media, the specially prepared printed text being central. Depending on resources, a wide variety of other media can be used, notably TV, video and the personal computer, all of which can be located at study centres, and shared by a number of students.
