If you're in the mood for something a little more daring this weekend, a roughly 5-kilometer day hike to Savandurga Hill would be excellent. Nearly 60 kilometres from Bangalore, Savandurga Hill which is roughly 1226 meters above sea level is the largest monolith in Asia. The hill serves as the hiking route to Savandurga Hill and is made up of two granite boulders known as "Karigudda," or the "black hill," and "Biligudda," or the "white hill." The 'Biligudda' route is the better option as 'Karigudda' has several steep inclines and hazardous paths that need a permit. At the top of the hill are the remnants of a fort that was formerly a prison. Given its incline, it was also known as the Fort of Death or Savandurga.
