the Land of the Queen or Queens Meadow

Ranikhet is known as the "Land of the Queen" or "Queen's Meadow". The name comes from a local legend about the Katyuri ruler Raja Sudhardev and his queen, Rani Padmini, who chose the area as her residence after he won her heart. The name is made up of two words: "Rani" means queen and "Khet" means farm or meadow.
