According to the Hindu religion, fire is auspicious and so Havan is done before the start of any sacred event. Ghee or camphor is burnt in the fire which symbolizes the burning of the physical attributes like ego and thus there is purification. The importance of fire in Hindu religion has always been acknowledged.
