Subbaiah Institute is a unit of TADIKELA SUBBAIAH TRUST (R), Shimoga, Karnataka state, India that is formed in the year 2003 as per the norms of Indian Trust Act and under the section 3 of UGC Act of 1956 by the chairperson and founder Trustee Hon. Sri. T.Subbaramaiah along with the other trustees Dr.Nagendra, Mr.C.Maheshkumar, Dr.Latha R Telang, Dr.Srinivas, Dr.Vinayakumari. Trustees of the Trust implemented their innovative thoughts in action, under the true intention of translating the experience and expertise in Medical Education for making Experienced Doctors in the medical justice and equity to the society.
Subbaiah Institute of Medical Science is called under the name and style as " SUBBAIAH MEDICAL COLLEGE " which developed in the area of 32 acres of land with the immediate built up area of 10, 000,00/sq ft including 500 bedded Multispecialty Hospital along with all other medical amenities as per the guide lines of Medical Council Of India (M C I) and affiliated to Rajiv Gandhi University of Health Science (R G U H S), Bangalore, Government of Karnataka.

Lecture Halls

State of the art air-conditioned lecture theatres are designed spaciously to accommodate 180 students at a time. All the lecture theatres are facilitated with audiovisual equipments such as LCD projectors, slide projectors, Microphones. Apart from the lecture theatres, all the departments have A/C. Seminar Rooms / Demonstration Rooms with a capacity of 20 to 30 and are equipped with audio-visual aids.

The lecture theatres are LAN connected for multimedia presentations operated from the central server. Digital IP cameras are fixed to record live lectures, which are in turn converted into digital format for the provision of E-learning.

Multi-purpose halls are designed for conducting internal and university exams. These halls are equipped with surveillance system to monitor the students during examination.

Demo Rooms

Each department has two separate demonstration rooms, which are 60 SQ.M in area, spaciously designed and furnished to accommodate 100 students at a time. These demonstration rooms are equipped with overhead Projectors, Slide Projectors, Televisions, Video and audio visual aids.

Rural Health Training Centre

Rural health training centre is 15kms away, under the administrative control of Principal, is available for training the students in community oriented primary health care and rural based health education for the rural community attached to the hospital & medical college.
Residential arrangements for boys, girls and interns with mess facilities are provided at the rural health centre. College buses are accessible for both students and staff for carrying out fieldwork, teaching and training activities by the department of Community Medicine.

Hostels

Providing residential facilities for students is a primary task. Well-furnished AC & NON AC hostels separate for boys and girls meet the requirements of comfortable living for students. The hostel mess provides healthy and hygienic food for the students. Safety and security guards are available round the clock to provide security of the inmates residing in the hostels.
TV rooms with Plasma TV connected to a DTH network are available for the students in their respective hostel. A separate air-conditioned study room with internet facility is also made available for the students at their respective hostels.
Sports & Games

Facilities for outdoor and indoor games as well as a health club are provided to keep the future doctors physically fit. Games such as football, basketball, cricket, hockey, Indoor badminton and table tennis are also available for the students. Physical Trainers take special care in making the students trained and involved in the above activities.
A well-equipped air-conditioned Gymnasium for the staff and students with a qualified physical instructor is open 7 days before and after college hours.

Cafeteria

SMCH food court is a pleasant ambiance place, which is situated within the campus. The cafeteria serves hygienic food at reasonable prices. Students have a choice of north Indian and south Indian dishes which are given a homely touch.

The cafeteria is well furnished and well maintained to conveniently accommodate 500 students at a time, during the campus hours. Separate kitchens are maintained for cooking vegetarian and non-vegetarian dishes. Hot lunch, snacks and beverages of different flavors are served to the students and staff at reasonable rates with an option of take away for the campus residents and locals. The cafeteria is open 365 days, which also serves a wide range of refreshment & fast food varieties.
