The RICE (rest, ice, compression, and elevation) method is a common treatment for musculoskeletal injuries, such as sprains, strains, bruises, and overexertion. It can help with pain, swelling, inflammation, healing, and flexibility.
Here's how to use the RICE method:
Rest
Avoid using the injured area, especially for 24 to 48 hours after a moderate or severe sprain.
Ice
Apply a cold pack or bag of frozen vegetables wrapped in a towel to the injured area as soon as possible. Don't leave the ice pack on for more than 20 minutes at a time, and allow the skin to warm before icing it again.
Compression
Wrap the injured area with an elastic bandage to reduce swelling and blood flow, and provide support.
Elevation
Prop up the injured area above the level of your heart to reduce swelling.
