Tasks and duties :

Reviewing drawings and blueprints in order to establish which materials, methods and settings are required for particular parts and processes.
Fitting parts into machinery and equipment, checking parts for accuracy and fit, using tools to cut, file, plane, bore and drill metal.
Diagnosing problems with machines and reporting issues to manager, ensuring that health and safety regulations are followed.

Individuals who are good with their hands, have strong math skills and an aptitude for interpreting technical drawings are well suited to becoming Fitters. The typical work environment for Fitters is within a factory or manufacturing plant, and because of this, they tend to work wearing protective items such as masks, goggles and earplugs.
