The Perioperative Problem-Based Medicine course at the Apollo Simulation Centre (ASC) is designed to enhance the skills of healthcare professionals in managing the perioperative care of patients. This one-day program provides a systematic approach to preoperative optimization, risk stratification, and the management of postoperative complications. It emphasizes a collaborative, multidisciplinary approach to perioperative care, ensuring that participants understand the pathophysiology of surgical stress, anesthesia dynamics, and recovery room management.
Participants will engage in a combination of online lectures, interactive discussions, and hands-on practical stations covering key areas such as ECG, ABG, chest X-rays, and MEWS scoring. The course also includes problem-based case discussions and scenario-based learning to help practitioners tackle common and serious perioperative issues effectively. Communication, teamwork, and documentation skills will also be developed, which are essential for successful team-based care in the operating room and post-surgery.
The course is aimed at anesthetists, surgical trainees, medical practitioners, and other healthcare professionals involved in perioperative care. It offers both theoretical and practical learning, with an objective structured clinical examination (OSCE) to assess participants' skills.
