Rajamalai National Park is a must-visit at Munnar. Eravikulam (Rajamalai) National Park is situated in Devikulam of Munnar. It is situated about 15 km away from Munnar town at a base elevation of about 2000 m above sea level. In its earlier days, Eravikulam National Park was managed by the former Kannan Devan Hills Produce Company. It was acquired by the Government of Kerala in 1971 and gave it the title of Wildlife Sanctuary in 1975. It was declared a National Park in 1978. Eravikulam National Park consists of patches of Shola forests which are interspersed with rolling grasslands on a sprawling 97 sq km. It has the largest untouched patch of Shola grassland mosaic when compared to other Shola-grassland vegetation in the Western Ghats. Eravikulam National Park also abode Anamudi, is the highest peak (2690 m) in the peninsular India. The park has three sections Core Area, Buffer Area and Tourism Area. Visitors to the National Park have access only to the Tourism Area which comes under Rajamalai region. This area has trekking facilities as well.
