About VLSI
Very-large-scale integration (VLSI) is the process of creating integrated circuits by combining thousands of transistors into a single chip. VLSI began in the 1970s when complex semiconductor and communication technologies were being developed. Examples of VLSI Devices are microprocessor, microcontroller, bus etc.
Streams of VLSI
VHDL
VHDL (VHSIC Hardware Description Language) is a hardware description language used in electronic design automation to describe digital and mixed-signal systems such as field-programmable gate arrays and integrated circuits. VHDL can also be used as a general purpose parallel programming language.
Verilog HDL
Verilog, standardized as IEEE 1364, is a hardware description language (HDL) used to model electronic systems. It is most commonly used in the design and verification of digital circuits at the register-transfer level of abstraction. It is also used in the verification of analog circuits and mixed-signal circuits.
System Verilog
System Verilog is a combined Hardware Description Language and Hardware Verification Language based on extensions to Verilog. System Verilog started with the donation of the Superlog language to Accellera in 2002.
The feature-set of System Verilog can be divided into two distinct roles:
• System Verilog for RTL design is an extension of Verilog-2005 all features of that language are available in System Verilog.
• System Verilog for verification uses extensive Object Oriented Programming techniques and is more closely related to Java than Verilog.
