The Sacred Chardham
Yamunotri
Significance: Yamunotri, the source of the Yamuna River, is dedicated to Goddess Yamuna. It is believed that taking a dip in its waters cleanses all sins and protects from untimely death.
Attractions: The main temple, constructed by Maharani Gularia of Jaipur, houses the idol of Goddess Yamuna. Nearby, the Surya Kund and Divya Shila add to the site's sanctity.
Gangotri
Significance: Gangotri, the origin of the Ganges River, holds immense importance as the place where Goddess Ganga descended to Earth to absolve the sins of King Bhagirath's ancestors.
Attractions: The Gangotri Temple, established by the Gorkha General Amar Singh Thapa, is the main attraction. Pilgrims also visit the nearby Bhagirathi Shila and the submerged Shivling.
Kedarnath
Significance: Kedarnath, one of the twelve Jyotirlingas of Lord Shiva, is located near the Mandakini River. It is believed that worshiping at Kedarnath earns one the blessings of Lord Shiva.
Attractions: The Kedarnath Temple, built by Adi Shankaracharya, is a major pilgrimage site. The trek to the temple, surrounded by snow-capped peaks, enhances its spiritual aura.
Badrinath
Significance: Badrinath, dedicated to Lord Vishnu, is part of the larger Char Dham (which includes Dwarka, Puri, and Rameshwaram). It is believed that a visit to Badrinath washes away all sins.
Attractions: The Badrinath Temple, established by Adi Shankaracharya, is the main shrine. The Tapt Kund hot springs and the Neelkanth peak add to the site's spiritual ambiance.
