Walking in one of the most beautiful valleys in the Garhwal region, in the Har - Ki - Dun valley, is the ultimate dream of each beginner. For nature lovers Har-Ki-Doon valley offers rich jungles abundant in bird and animal life, variety of alpine flowers and plants, and spectacular view. Har-Ki-Doon is a cradle shaped valley south east of the Janundhar glacier.It is surrounded by snow-covered peaks and in the southeast by heavily wooded forests. The forests are rich in wildlife and are a veritable paradise for bird-watchers and nature lovers. Har - ki - Dun means the God's valley & so it truly is. Nestling in the north-western extremity of Garhwal, alongwside the Sutlaj - Yamuna watershed, it is situated in the Uttarkashi district, at the base of Fateh Parbat, at an elevation of 3,566 meters. This cradle shaped valley south - east of the Jamundhar Glacier is surrounded by glittering peaks on the North-West side, and in the South-East by dense forests of pine, deodar & other coniferous trees. The trek from Taluka to Har-ki-dun is graded easy.
Day 1:-Dehradun to Sankri
After breakfast, drive to sankri. Today, the drive gets interesting with long winding and narrow roads. We head to the Tons river valley; one of the lesser known but very beautiful part of Uttarakhand. Reach Sankri and stay the night in tents. Sankri is a lovely little hamlet with Swargarohini peak serving as its back drop. Your trek begins from Sankri.
Day 2 - Sankri to Taluka
After having breakfast in Sankri, get ready for your first day of Har Ki Doon trek. Before embarking on the trek, ensure that you have enough to bottled drinking water and energy bars to keep you going. From Sankri the trek is well marked and passes through a dense forest with breathtaking views of the valley sprawled below and the gushing river Rupin flowing in all its might. Taluka, a small hamlet on the banks of the river Supin, enjoy the freshness of Taluka.
Day 3 -Taluka to Osla
The day starts with the gentle trail towards Osla. Today's trek is through beautiful forests of Chestnut, Walnut and Willows. A gradual ascent brings us to the picturesque Osla village along the swift rivulet. On arrival set campsite for overnight stay.
Day 4 - Osla to Har ki dun
This day entails cruising 11km towards your next destination of Har Ki Dun Pass throughout which you will experience a gradual terrain and pleasant views of the valleys, plains and towering mountains. The gradual ascent to Har Ki Dun is adorned with wild orchid fields and from an elevation of 6,200m offers excellent views of the Swargarohini and Juandar glaciers. On arrival at the Pass, settle down in the campsite with peaks of Har Ki Dun and Swargarohini towering above.
Day 5 -Har ki dun to Jaundhar Glacier and back
The day starts with a healthy meal and continues on to a trek towards the Juandhar glaciers, which is a long stretch of white snow and patches of green grass. Feast your eyes with the picturesque views of the glaciers and the valley post which you can return back to the Swargarohini campsite.
Day 6 -Har ki dun to Osla
Trekking back to the village of Osla is an easy affair and gives time to relax, stop and admire all of God's wondrous sights giving a lot of opportunity to photograph the beauty of the valley and the villages. The easy downhill walk to Osla takes around 3-4 hrs. Overnight in tourist rest house/ tent.
Day 7 -Osla to Sankri
The 7th day is the last day of the trek covering 26km through steeper terrains and stunning environs with sights of migratory birds disappearing in the snow-peaked mountains. After about 6 to 7 hours, finally arrive back to Sankri; overnight stay in Sankri.
Day 8 - Day 8 Drive back to Dehradun
