    Description for "Hair loss"

Demodex is an eight-legged, spider-like, humans face mite and is an obligate ectoparasite on mammals. It lives in hair follicles and the sebaceous glands beneath them. There are around 65 species of Demodex mites known, two of which are specific to humans: D.Folliculorum and D.Brevis.

Demodex mites feed on the nutrients that strands need to nourish and grow. In some conditions, such as a weakened immune system, these skin pests multiply to the point where more than 25 of them fit into a follicle. They eat the follicles nutrients and leave no more for hair to grow. Damaged hair strands are gradually weakened and fall out.

Demodex decomposes after death, and the toxic substances released spread across the skin and might block the sebum's passage to flow to the surface of the skin, exacerbating skin concerns.
