The Antonine Plague would also figure as one of the worst pandemics in history, which affected the Roman empire when it was still at its height of power. Much of what we know about the Antonine Plague, comes from the description of the physician Galen, who described it. This is the reason; the disease is also known as the Plague of Galen. The Antonine Plague is named after the family name Antoninus, of Roman emperor of the time Marcus Aurelius Antoninus.
