Himachal Pradesh is a beautiful hill state in India, nestles in north-west region of western Himalayas. History of Himachal Pradesh
The region of Himachal Pradesh was called 'Deva Bhoomi ' (the land of the gods). From the early period of its history it was inhabited by tribes like the Koilis, Halis, Dagis, Dhaugris, Dasa, Khasas, Kinnars and Kirats. The Aryan influence in this area of India dates to the period before the Rigveda. Sankar Varma, the king of Kashmir exercised his influence over regions of Himachal Pradesh in about 883 AD. In 1773 AD the Rajputs under Sansar Chand possessed this region, till the attack by Maharaja Ranjit Singh in 1804 which crushed the Rajput power here.
How to Reach by Road/Air/Bus
By Road: It is 343km from the Indian capital New Delhi via Chandigarh, 151km from Ambala, and 240km from Dehradun, 117km from Chandigarh. Apart from this, it is also well connected to Pathankot in Punjab.
By Rail: In fact, there are no railway tracks in the entire state because of the loft hills. But, Kalka (90km away) is the nearest railway station to reach to Himachal Pradesh to explore major tourist spots in Himachal Pradesh.
By Air: For those tourists who come outside India the best airport is Indira Gandhi International Airport. However, Kullu also houses an airport that is only 23km away. There are regular flights from Delhi to Kullu.

Shimla

Dalhousie and the Chamba Valley are lesser explored areas of Himachal Pradesh. If you're after striking, unspoiled views then Dalhousie is the place to find them. Spread over five hills, the town bares the distinct stamp of the British Raj. Its hotels are particularly reminiscent of that era.
Kalatope Wildlife Sanctuary is located a short drive away from Dalhousie. It's possible to walk through the sanctuary but a permit is necessary for a vehicle. Those who dare to venture further into the Chamba Valley will discover fascinating ancient folklore, temples, and tribes.
