HCA was founded by Shripad K V in 2001, a native of Hubli-Dharwad and an International Rated Chess Player with an view to bring awareness about the game and to promote Chess activities in Dharwad district. Academy has organized various Chess tournaments since 2001 and 2002 and has invited all the TOP chess players of Karnataka state to take part. Apart from organizing chess tournaments, Hubli Chess Academy is also involved in giving Chess coaching at the individual level, schools and colleges, personal coaching also. Chess players can improve their game skill and thus be competent enough to participate in any of the State level chess tournaments. Hubli Chess Academy's Shripad has trained many chess players, among them also became state chess champion in U-14 category, U-12 age category, represented Karnataka state in Nationals. The aim behind HCA is to develop, motivate, strengthen and bring awareness about this game in North Karnataka. He has vast tournament playing and coaching experience of 20 years in district, state and national events. His students gained International Rating and thus HCA is treated as one of the premier chess coaching centers in Hubli-Dharwad region. To tell more about the founder; he is a reigning Dharwad District Chess Champion since 2007, he has won prestigious LIC chess tournaments, many state level tournaments, state level Chess tournaments organized by Rotary at Bijapur and various knock-out tournaments in North Karnataka during the years 1996 - 2002 in all the formats, and at the state level also. He has won many titles at the corporate level in Bangalore since 2004 where in all the top notch IT companies take part every quarterly in the chess tournaments

We are organizing 2nd Sunday monthly RAPID chess tournament at J.K.Katkar's Sports & Cultural Bureau, Green Garden HUBLI for OPEN & U-14 age categories. Players utilizes the tournament and enhance their playing strength by participating and playing with FIDE Rated chess players every month. This has helped may players in and around native of Dharwad districts to get a chance of playing chess tournaments in their nearby town..He has authored and published a Chess Book called “Play Chess - A Guide to your Chess Tactics”, this book teaches how to learn Chess, improve Chess and also a good book for advanced Chess players as well who wish to take Chess to next level. Many tactics weapons are included in this book i.e., tactics of King Pawn openings and interesting positions to make Chess players amazed!!
