A capacitor is generally used to store energy in the form of electrical charge. Air conditioning capacitors consist of two conductor plates with an insulating material in between them. The insulating material is also known a dielectric. The insulator is made of the special non-conductive material, paper, or the air. These are used in both AC and DC circuits.
