Since arthritis and "frozen shoulder" are unrelated disorders, the term "frozen shoulder" is frequently used improperly.

As opposed to arthritis, which can apply to one or more joints, frozen shoulder specifically refers to the shoulder joint.

Women are more prone to get it than men, and it frequently affects persons between the ages of 40 and 60. A third of the population is thought to be affected.

One shoulder or both may be impacted.
