The Civil Engineering Department at MS Ramaiah Institute of Technology was started in the year 1971. The department started offering a Master s program M.Tech in Structural Engineering from 1984 Onwards.
Another milestone was achieved that the department was recognized as Research Center in the year 1994. Over four decades the department has carved its niche in the areas of academics, research, consultancy, collaborative projects, and publications.

The department was awarded the distinction of 5 years of accreditation by the NBA when it was evaluated for the third time. Over 12 research scholars have been awarded a Ph.D. degree and more than 18 research scholars are pursuing Ph.D. and M.Sc. degree in Civil Engineering. Over 250 technical papers in reputed journals and conferences are the outcome of active research in the department.
The Department holds a patent for Total Replacement of Sand in Concrete by Pond Ash (Patent No 244063). The department has been actively involved in conducting conferences, workshops, FDP s, Site Visits, Project Tours, and several students related programs to provide a platform for sharing and spreading the latest developments in the field of Civil Engineering.
