Often ignored by tourists, Abhaneri is a place which is worth-visiting for everyone who is interested in the erstwhile architecture class of India. Sketch India Journeys offer a trip to Abhaneri in which you will be introduced with its historical importance. Early morning, our representative will pick you up from your hotel and we will start driving towards Abhaneri. The 95km distance would be covered in less than one and a half hour. Upon arrival, explore the mesmerizing beauty of Abhaneri. The village was found by Kind Raja Chand. Folklore says that Raja Chand is actually Raja Bhoj, the king who ruled Gurjar Kingdom in 9th century and was popular for his wealth. Abhaneri Step Well: There are dozens of step wells located in Abhaneri. Due to being a town in Rajasthan state, Abhaneri used to suffer from severe draught. To fight the draught, the ruler created a few step wells which were used to store rain water. Even today, the step wells are used for the same purpose. Amongst all step wells, the Chand Baori is most prominent and largest one. It is a supreme piece of architecture, and no one can believe such a masterpiece was created hundreds of years ago. The 13-story step well serves two purposes a water reservoir as well as a community gathering place. The lower part of the well is quite cool, which is used by the people as a recreational spot during hot summers. There is a surprising fact about Chand Baori. It is believed that no matter how careful you are, you cannot follow the same path while going down and coming up in the well. Even some people tried this by leaving marks when going down, such as placing small stones on the step they used to go down. But when they tried to come up following the same stones, they got trapped and could not follow the same path. This certain fact attracts thousands of tourists every single year, and most of them attempt to break this myth. But no one could do so. You may find dozens of videos on YouTube where people are trying to do so but failed measurably. Harshat Mata Temple: Located close to Chand Baori is the Harshat Mata Temple, dedicated to local deity Harshat Maata, the goddess of mirth and happiness. The temple is a great example of medieval architecture of Rajasthan. You may find innumerable carvings, paintings and adorns in the temple, which make it a worth visiting place. It is a tradition to wash your hands and feet in the Chand Baori before entering the temple. Return to Jaipur: After visiting these two places, there is not much to explore in Abhaneri. There are some small baoris which you may consider visiting. After your journey, you will drive back to Jaipur. Upon arrival, you will be transferred to hotel. The Abhaneri same day trip from Jaipur ends here.
