Exemption from IELTS in New Zealand for students studied from English medium School / College!!!!

As per the current New Zealand Qualification Authority (NZQA) policy which is applicable to institutions other than Universities, certain institutions will be able to exempt the IELTS condition of the student based on its own assessment of English.

Certain institutions have framed policies to waive the IELTS based on the previous education in English medium and some institutions are conducting their own English assessment test.

The conditions on which the IELTS will get exempt are given below:

Ø Any student who has studied from Class 8th to Class 12th from English medium School / College can be exempted from IELTS. The student can be from any board; only the medium of instruction needs to be English.

Ø This applies to all UG and PG courses. NZ Immigration will most probably interview most of these students as they do not have proof of IELTS, so kindly prepare the students accordingly.

Ø 5 years of primary (1st to 5th standard) school & at least 3 years of secondary school in English medium.

Ø The above decision is in accordance with NZQA guidelines for Category 1 provider institutions.

Documents required:

The institutions will need clear cut evidence of their medium of instruction:

1. Either mark-sheets stating study from English an medium School / College or

2. A bonafide certificate from the school confirming the same.
