Jaipur, India is a city in the state of Rajasthan that's known as the "Pink City" for its pink-colored buildings. It was founded in 1727 by Maharaja Sawai Jai Singh II, who moved the capital from Amber to the new city due to population growth and water scarcity. The city was built in a single phase over four years using Vastu Shastra principles and with the help of a town planner and royal invitations to traders and craftsmen. Jaipur is considered a UNESCO World Heritage Site and an example of indigenous city planning and construction in South Asia
