What Is the Difference between 2D and 3D?
2D and 3D are terms used to refer to actual dimensions in a computer's work space. The difference between the two is that 2D normally gives a flat image while 3D gives out an image that is real. 3D uses colored filters so as to give depth to illusion.

2D refers to two-dimensional. This basically means flat. ANY movie that does not specifically say it is 3D is 2D instead, as is all television watched on a non-3D TV.

3D equals three-dimensional. This refers to the added dimension of depth. Most modern movies have a 3D version, most of which require you to wear 3D glasses so that your eyes put the very odd-seeming pictures into an optical illusion that makes the image 'pop' out at you. How to Train Your Dragon and Cars 2 both have 3D versions for example. The version you watch at home is 2D unless you explicitly have the 3D version and a 3D capable TV.
