Dayanand Sagar College of Management & Information Technology (DSCMANIT) is in South-Central Bengaluru s Kumaraswamy Layout close to Banashankari. Bus services provided by BMTC are fantastic in the central areas of Bengaluru and this college is one amongst many other institutions which benefit by this awesome service. However, few students here are known to make use of BMTC buses as half of them reside in the hostels and the others commute by their own two wheelers.
Infrastructure:
The college is part of the gargantuan Dayanand Sagar Institutions (DSI) campus which spreads of acres of land and is home to several other sister institutes. As you enter the campus on your bike, you are directed to the parking lot which is humungous with hundreds of bikes parked every day (Parking is charged at Rs. 5/- every day and doesn t go down well with everyone). Infrastructure on the whole is terrific; buildings, libraries, classrooms, labs, Wi-Fi, e-books, everything. Only one thing that bothers sometimes is roaming around the campus; it s full of slopes and descents, so while going down would be fun, coming up is equally tiring.
The DSI campus has two kinds of hostels; the NRI hostel which isn t restricted to only NRIs but is offered to anyone who can afford it. So if you want all the luxuries of a twin-sharing air-conditioned room equipped with a television and some more additional facilities, get ready to shell out at least double of what those chaps at the Indian hostel pay. Yes, that s what they call it, an almost dilapidated hostel offering four-sharing, non-A/C, non-TV rooms at half the price.
Fees & Placements:
The college charges Rs. 2,00,000 to the PG-CET students for the two year course and over Rs. 6,00,000 for the management seats.
Placements are worse compared to the Engineering College, but on the whole, average. The college manages to place about 70% of the students in companies like Deloitte, E&Y, L&T and ICICI which is a major recruiter here. The average salary hovers around Rs. 2.6L per year and the highest goes to a modest Rs. 5L per year.
Faculty:
Barring a few intolerable ones, the rest of the faculty is decent. A lot of them are having industry experience as well as teaching experience. Teaching is supposedly better for the MBA offered under VTU as compared to Bengaluru University s MBA and the independent PGDM course.
Seminars & Industry Interaction:
Corporate seminars are held every Saturday but students don t seem to find them too interesting as the masses bunk unless it s been made compulsory to attend. MBA students are also taken for three Industrial visits during the course; local trip at industries in Bengaluru, a national industrial visit to some other city such as Mumbai or Chandigarh and the most awaited international Industrial Visit which nothing but an international holiday trip.
Attendance & Discipline:
The DSI group doesn t believe in unnecessarily burdening the students with disciplinary rules and thus there s complete freedom. A good belief; but is sometimes used by students in the wrong way.
Crowd & Campus Life:
Perhaps the best part of the entire Dayanand Sagar Institutions (DSI) campus. A very colorful crowd with a healthy mix of girls and boys all blending around perfectly. Loads of North Indians somehow happen to land up here. There s always an enthusiastic ambience around in the campus, girls and guys happen to blend perfectly and masti is at the top of everyone s mind.
Altogether 4 or 5 canteens lay spread out around the campus. The NRI canteen is perhaps the biggest, most hygienic appearing and costliest one amongst all. But it serves great food. Besides that, there s an Indian canteen which mostly serves South-Indian snacks and one or two Nescafe-like stalls. Food is generally not an issue nor is the variety of food.
Festivals:
A few management events here and there and that s about it. But with so many events being organized by all the sister institutes in the campus, it always feels like the fest season is on.
Verdict:
A great campus life coupled with decent enough faculty and industrial exposure make Dayanand Sagar College one of the top picks for MBA. Definitely amongst the top 10 MBA colleges of its league in Bengaluru, at least the section under VTU.
