BAAN Hikers : 1-day Monsoon trek to Gorakhgad

Dear friends,

BAAN Hikers have arranged a 1-day Monsoon trek to Gorakhgad Fort on 16th June, 2013

Gorakhgad attracts trekkers due to its inviting pinnacles, which offer good opportunities for rock-climbing. This region of Gorakhgad and Machchindragad has a dense forest cover. Fort Gorakhgad is quite small in size. It was having strategic importance during the reign of Shahaji Raje. However, no major battle is recorded to have taken place here. It was used in Shivaji’s era to patrol the nearby region and was used as a stopover station during the journey to Junnar via Naneghat. Though small in size, there is enough availability water and a lot of space for accommodation. The fort gets its name from Saint Gorakhnath, who performed his “Sadhana” in this place.


Details for the trek are as follows:-

Meeting at Kalyan station at 7.00 am on 16th June, 2013

Departure from Kalyan to Murbad at 7.15 am by ST bus/Jeep;

Further we go till Dehri by Jeep/ST;

Start trek at 10.15 am;

Reach to top at 12.30 pm;

Explore fort & Lunch till 2.00 pm;

Start getting down at 2.00 pm;

Reach to Dehri at 4.00 pm;

Then arrival at Kalyan station approx. 7.00 pm;
