The sanctuary was established in 1982 and also houses a sheer diversity of vegetation, including tree vegetation like baakli, mahua, dhaak and bamboo. It is one of the major tourist attractions that is located on the border of Bihar and Uttar Pradesh. The topography of the region comprises deciduous forests, swampy marshes and grasslands.
