What is SAP’s POSDM?
This is the first in a series of ten short blogs about the SAP POSDM product. It has been a part of BI for about 5 years now and is targeted at retailers.

POSDM = Point of Sale Data Management.
It can provide a single gateway for Point of Sale data to pass through, before it arrives at target systems (e.g. SAP ERP, BI, Third Party systems). As the data passes through it is audited and enriched before being aggregated and formatted for the relevant targets. Below is a list of some of the uses of POS data which help to define the audit rules within POSDM:

Secure transmission of payment card details to card companies (e.g. VISA).
Update of centralized store stock records and valuation.
Update store revenue accounts.
Model of labour activity for future resource planning.
Analyze customer baskets to understand customer purchasing habits.
Identify events that indicate possible fraud from customers or employees.
Provide replenishment instructions direct to vendors.
Flash reporting on the previous days sales.
Provide managed services to head franchisees.
