Velas Beach Turtle Festival 20th March 2014

Festival dates: 20th, 21st, 22nd, 29th & 30th March 2014.
Velas beach, a village in Ratnagiri district is around 200 km south of Mumbai is leaving no stone unturned to save the turtles from disaster. Ten years ago, before the conservation effort started, most of the Olive Ridley turtle eggs were either consumed by humans, dogs and other wild animals. But with awareness and large-scale participation of locals, 19000 hatchlings have been released in the decade long effort. Come and witness the spectacular journey of the tiny turtles during Velas Turtle Fest 2014.

Prices: Rs. 700 per person per night inclusive of stay & veg meals (tea, breakfast, lunch, and dinner). Rs. 900 per person per night inclusive of stay & non veg fish meals (tea, breakfast, lunch, and dinner).

Itinerary:
Day 1: 20th March
Reach Velas from Mumbai or Pune by afternoon.
Have lunch, visit Bankot fort.
Observe the turtle nests/see hatchlings and explore the Velas beach. Dinner & overnight at Velas homestay.

Day 2: 21st March
Visit Velas beach to see turtle hatchlings.
After breakfast visit Harihareshwar temple or Mumbai/Pune.
