Program objective & description

The Advanced Certificate in Graphics & Web design is designed to build knowledge and skills through an intensive series of subjects that cover a wide spectrum of the multiple media. Students gain knowledge based on experience through extensive lab time using multiple hardware platforms. A one-to-one (student-to machine) lab ratio allows students to individually explore the intricacies of a wide variety of graphics software. Students create a series of projects and assets throughout the program in addition to a final project specially developed to demonstrate their knowledge and abilities to potential employers.

The Advanced Certificate in Graphics & Web design course would take the student through various facets of visual design, polishing his or her skills for the challenging media industry as wells as exposure in order to keep the student at par with the demands of the industry.

Course Sequence
Typically, the Advance Certificate in Graphics and Web Design follows the course sequence outlined here, however, Aniframes College of Arts & Multimedia reserves the right to modify or change curriculum, class schedules and/or course sequence as it deems necessary to ensure that student and institutional goals are met.

Art Foundation

Art Foundation prepares our future digital artists with the traditional skills they need to understand their art. Through a series of assignments students exercise the observational skills required for illustration & conceptual design. Assignments that focus on perspective, composition, and lighting prepare students for these same skills crucial in compositing and generating the initial creatives. Daily work will include drawing from still life displays, composition, shading and sketching in perspective.

Graphic Design
Conveying a specific message to a targeted audience requires a professional with creative skills who is referred to as a graphic designer. Graphic design is the study and practice of communicating ideas
and information through printed, environmental and digital presentations

This subject provides the fundamental technical and creative skills required for a graphic designer. The subject is a mix of Typography and images we try to integrate messages that interest, inform, and persuade intended audiences. We also use research, critical thinking, creativity, and a range of problem - solving principles to solve complex visual communication problems within the constraints of time, space, budget, and technology.

In this subject students learn how to produce digital images, illustrations, and layouts, addressing such foundational design theory topics as color, typography and composition. Class assignments involve hands-on photo editing, logo design, poster design, magazine covers and layouts, and many other important practices.

Web Design
Web Design subject provides fundamental technical, creative, and critical thinking skills for a career in Web design. Students build proficiency in the technologies that Web design clients and employers demand. Students are taught the fundamentals of visual design techniques to make their work stand out. Students learn how to create digital images and interactive page elements, build Web sites compliant to the international web standards with HTML, CSS, and design sites that are functional and creatively appealing.

Students will learn how to plan a website using a structured document, site navigation types, creating web illustrations like buttons, banners & bars, typography for web, scribbling the layout, creating web templates, slicing the templates, recognizing good design vs. bad design, optimizing graphics and images for faster downloads.

Students will also learn to create animated contents to be integrated in a website, creating e-greetings, animated banners and other web components, e-presentations, Advanced Action Script
3.0, Overview of Search engine optimization, Domain hosting, Site uploading & Maintenance.

Students will gain proficiency in the following softwares in this subject.
• Adobe Photoshop
• Adobe Dreamweaver
• Adobe Flash with Action Script
• HTML and CSS
• FTP (File transfer protocol) and a host of other tools.

Portfolio
Students will create the presentation elements that surround the main demo reel. Students will learn how to make successful presentations that address the needs expressed in a variety of job descriptions. Presentation materials created in class will include visual branding, creating reel openers and closers, and the compilation of any traditional artwork. Students will also learn how to layout and implement an artist-friendly portfolio web site. This class will culminate in a finished, professional demo reel on a DVD presented to a large audience for feedback and a modular portfolio website.

The portfolio for graphic design will include Stationary Designs inclusive of Business card, Letter head & Envelope. Logos and Company Identities for a corporate communication. Advertising layouts & Web design template designs. Packaging Designs, Posters, Danglers, POPs, Leaflets, Menu cards, Invitation & Greetings, Newspaper & Newsletter layouts with typography presentations etc.

The portfolio for web design will include a number of Web templates with an international look and feel, completely done website designs, Flash website mock-ups, animated e-presentations etc.
