About The college is part of the gargantuan Dayanand Sagar Institutions (DSI) campus which spreads over acres of land and is home to several other sister institutes. As you enter the campus on your bike, you are directed to the parking lot which is humungous with hundreds of bikes parked every day (Parking is charged at Rs. 5/- every day and doesn t go down well with everyone). Infrastructure on the whole is terrific; buildings, libraries, classrooms, labs, Wi-Fi, e-books, everything. Only one thing that bothers sometimes is roaming around the campus; it s full of slopes and descents, so while going down would be fun, coming up is equally tiring.
The DSI campus has two kinds of hostels; the NRI hostel which isn t restricted to only NRIs but is offered to anyone who can afford it. So if you want all the luxuries of a twin-sharing air-conditioned room equipped with a television and some more additional facilities, get ready to shell out at least double of what those chaps at the Indian hostel pay. Yes, that s what they call it, an almost dilapidated hostel offering four-sharing, non-A/C, non-TV rooms at half the price (close to Rs. 60,000/- per year).
Faculty:
Now that s where Dayanand Sagar College of Engineering (DSCE) takes a hitting. There are more than a dozen engineering fields offered; from the usual CS & IS to Aeronautical to Construction Technology. However, barring CS & IS, majority of the students from all other branches hold a unanimous opinion, TERRIBLE faculty. Reason: lack of senior professors and an abundance of inexperienced lecturers, who although may be knowledgeable aren t able to satisfactorily clear out students doubts.
Attendance & Discipline:
DSCE is pretty lenient when it comes to attendance issues, at least compared to many other engineering institutions in Bangalore. Although 85% is recommended and 75% is officially allowed if necessary medical documents are available, even below 75% is manageable if you are ready to shell out fines. Detention is rare and happens only in extreme cases.
The DSI group doesn t believe in unnecessarily burdening the students with disciplinary rules and thus there s complete freedom. A good belief, but is sometimes used by students in the wrong way.
Placements:
Overall, about 70% of the students get placed, most of them in Infosys and HCL, two major recruiters here. Computers Science and Information Science sections record 100% placements with ECE, EEE & Telecom following suit. However, the core branches like Mechanical are left with around 40% placements. What distinguishes DSCE from other average Engineering Colleges is that a few core companies like Bosch, L&T and Mu Sigma also visit the campus offering salaries from Rs. 4.5L 6L per year.
