Each dialysis machine must be internally sanitized before each patient association. Fumigation is the process that enduringly deactivates potentially pathogenic bacteria and reduces them to a level where they no longer embody a danger of infection. Machines made by Dialysis Machine Manufacturers that are not presently in use must be heat sanitized at least every 72 hours to prevent bacteriological propagation in the dialysate pathway. The heat decontamination sequence includes Citrosteril .
This is a powerful thermochemical disinfectant mixture. In any location where there is doubt about the nature of dirtying on the surface (e.g. blood or body liquid contamination against repetitive dust or dirt) or the attendance of MROs (counting C. difficile) or other communicable agents necessitating transmission-based safeguards (e.g. respiratory tuberculosis) is recognized or suspected, exteriors must be physically cleaned with a detergent liquid, followed or united with a TGA registered antiseptic with label claims stipulating its efficiency against precise communicable organisms.
This method must include either:
a physical clean using cleaner followed by a chemical antiseptic (2-step clean) i.e. clean with cleaner, then clean with an antiseptic OR
a physical clean using a cleaner and chemical antiseptic (2-in-1 clean) i.e. a collective cleaner/antiseptic wipe or the mixture could be used if this process includes mechanical/manual cleaning. Basic (motorized or manual) cleaning is the most significant step in cleaning. Sole dependence on an antiseptic without mechanical/manual cleaning is not suggested.
The subsequent apparatuses need regular cleaning:
the dialyzer connections and the thrust interlock
the closing part of the bibag connector
the closing area of the distillate suction tubes (concentrate / bicarbonate).
Heat fumigation of the machine must be done following the external cleaning of the dialysis machine made by Dialysis Machine Manufacturers. This must happen between every patient treatment as part of the surface fumigation of the machine.
