SIBM Pune was the first college to be set up under the SYMBIOSIS SOCIETY in the year 1978. With the old campus at Senapati Bapat Road in Pune, the city often referred to as the Oxford of the East due to its status of being the cultural and educational capital of Maharashtra.

From its inception, the institute was functioning from the SB Road campus until the year 2007, when it was relocated to the lush verdant hills of Lavale. SIBM Pune was already famous for its excellence in education, but was now labelled the hilltop heaven because of the unparalleled scenic beauty, which was, and is outstretched till as far as the eyes could see. The iconic white and pristine statue of the goddess Saraswati at the entrance, blessing every soul that sets foot in the campus, is a remarkable sight to behold.
