Initially the department offers B.E. in Mechanical Engg with 40 intake capacity, and then it was affiliated to Bangalore University. Present intake for Mechanical Engg at the undergraduate level is 120, and it is affiliated to VTU Belgaum with autonomous status.
Research and Development (R&D) center was established in 1986 with affiliation to Mysore University. The R&D department is involved in sponsored research, consultancy, testing, and characterization along with offering MS and Doctoral Programs.
The department started M.Tech programs under VTU in Product Design and Manufacturing in 2004, Computer Integrated Manufacturing in 2005, Machine Design in 2006 and Tool Engineering in 2008 with a total intake of 90 students.
The department has 08 Professors, 12 Associate Professors, 23 Assistant Professors and 03 visiting professors.
The Department has MOUs with Bosch Rexroth (Centre of Competence for Automation Technologies set up), Kennametal (Internships, BoS), and CLAAS Engineering (Consultancy and Collaborative R&D).
