College of Engineering Pune is an autonomous institute of the Government of Maharashtra, established in 1854 as the Poona Engineering Class and Mechanical School, this institute was first under the affiliation of the University of Bombay.
COEP is the third oldest engineering institute of Asia. The COEP was also one of the first institutes built by the British in pre-independent India.

These admissions are conducted by the Directorate of Technical Education (DTE) through the Centralized Admission Process (CAP).
