Sathyabama University is a private university at Chennai in Tamil Nadu, India, founded in 1988 as Sathyabama Engineering College by Jeppiaar Educational Trust formed in 1987 inagurated by former Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu, Janaki Ramachandran.
It was formerly known as Sathyabama Institute of Science and Technology (SIST).
The college is reputed for its student placements,discipline and good facilities. It is a Christian Minority Institution. The Ministry of Human Resources Development declared the college as a Deemed University under section 3 of the UGC Act, on 16 July, 2001[1]. The University, more specifically its engineering departments, have a record 334 tie-ups with various companies including DRDO and ISRO for conducting various forms of research. Many students who passed out from this university are in respectable positions in companies in India and abroad.

The University offers courses in 24 branches of Engineering at the UG level and 24 courses at PG level in addition to Sciences, MBA, MCA and Ph.D programmes in all disciplines. The University has excellent infrastructural facilities including modern laboratories, library with video, Internet and other general amenities. To its credit it has been awarded as Category ” A ” University by Ministry of Human Resource Developemnt ( MHRD ) , Government of India . The University has undertaken various sponsored and collaborative Research and Development projects funded by national organizations such as Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO), Department of Science and Technology (DST), Indira Gandhi Centre for Atomic Research (IGCAR), Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO), National Institute of Ocean Technology (NIOT), Ministry of Environment and Forests (MoEF) etc,.

Sathyabama University was established with a mission of taking the technical education standard of this country to the next level. This saga is a celebration of discipline, pride and joy in learning.
