New Vishwanath Temple Kashi Banaras

The New Vishwanath Temple or Birla Mandir is one of the main attractions of the city of Banaras. Dedicated to Lord Shiva, this temple is located inside the Banaras Hindu University, being the world's tallest temple tower; this temple has a grand view from afar. In the 1930s, Pandit Madan Mohan Malaviya thought of building a replica of the old Shri Kashi Vishwanath temple in the university campus. Thus, the construction of the new temple was started by the Birla family in 1931 and completed in 1966. The 77-meter-high temple is mostly made of marble. Although the main deity of this temple is Lord Shiva, other deities are also worshipped here. There are nine shrines within the temple, and the walls of this temple are designed with quotes from sacred Hindu scriptures.
