Production Shift Incharge Injection Molding 2026
An injection molding Production Shift Incharge with 1 to 3 years of experience is a critical ground-level leadership role. At this stage in your career, the focus is heavily on execution: keeping the machines running, managing the operators on your shift, minimizing scrap, and troubleshooting defects like flashing, short shots, or burn marks right on the floor.
Here is a targeted Job Description (JD) tailored exactly for a shift incharge with 1 to 3 years of experience in an injection molding plant.
Job Title: Production Shift Incharge Injection Molding
Experience Level: 1 to 3 Years
Department: Production / Plastics Manufacturing
Reports To: Production Manager / Plant Engineer
Position Purpose
The Shift Incharge will take complete ownership of a specific shift's injection molding operations. You will manage a team of machine operators and loaders, ensure the production schedule is strictly followed, monitor cycle times, and perform basic machine/mold troubleshooting to maintain high quality and minimize downtime.
Key Responsibilities
Shift Floor Management: Lead and assign tasks to machine operators, assembly workers, and material loaders at the start of every shift. Ensure optimal manpower utilization.
Production Targets: Monitor hourly production output against targets to ensure the delivery schedule is met without compromising on quality.
Process Monitoring & Troubleshooting: Track critical injection molding parameters (e.g., injection pressure, melt temperature, holding time, cooling time). Actively troubleshoot and resolve common molding defects like:
Short shots
Flashing / Burrs
Sink marks & Warpage
Burn marks / Silver streaks
Mold & Material Setup: Coordinate with the mold setup/maintenance team for timely mold changes, material color changes, and machine warm-ups to reduce changeover downtime (SMED).
Material & Scrap Control: Ensure raw plastic granules (PP, ABS, Polycarbonate, etc.) and masterbatches are mixed in correct ratios. Monitor and minimize scrap/rework rates on the floor.
Quality Check: Perform periodic visual and dimensional inspections of first-off and running production parts. Coordinate with the QC team to stop lines if deviations occur.
Daily Reporting: Maintain daily shift logs, production reports, machine downtime logs, and rejection data in the ERP system or logbooks. Shift handover protocols must be strictly followed.
Safety & 5S: Enforce shop-floor safety rules (proper use of PPE, machine guard checks) and maintain workplace cleanliness using 5S principles.
Required Experience & Qualifications
Education: Diploma or B.E./B.Tech in Mechanical, Production, or Plastics Engineering / CIPET (Central Institute of Petrochemicals Engineering & Technology) qualification is highly preferred.
Experience: 1 to 3 years of hands-on floor experience in an injection molding manufacturing plant (Automotive components, FMCG packaging, or Consumer Goods).
Technical Skills:
Basic operational knowledge of injection molding machines (e.g., Engel, Toshiba, Windsor, Milacron).
Understanding of plastic raw materials, resin behavior, and basic hydraulic/electrical machine functions.
Familiarity with auxiliary equipment like hoppers, dryers, chillers, and mold temperature controllers (MTC).
