Utility Maintenance Assistant Manager jobs at chennai 2026
JD :
An Assistant Utility Maintenance Manager with 5 years of experience is transitioning into a crucial tactical leadership role.
While a line maintenance engineer focuses on production machines,
a utility manager is responsible for the backbone of the entire plant the centralized utilities that keep the factory alive.
At the 5-year mark, companies look for someone who can step away from just fixing broken pipes and start optimizing energy costs, managing vendor contracts, ensuring regulatory compliance (boiler acts, pollution control), and leading a team of technicians.
Here is a comprehensive Job Description (JD) tailored exactly for a Utility Maintenance Assistant Manager.

Statutory Compliance & Permits: Coordinate with government bodies and third-party inspectors to ensure all utility equipment complies with legal regulations (e.g., Boiler Act, Pollution Control Board norms for ETP/STP, electrical inspectorate clearances).
Team Leadership: Manage, train, and allocate shifts for a team of utility engineers, technicians, and plant operators. Ensure high motivation and enforce absolute safety discipline.
Inventory & Vendor Management: Maintain critical spare parts inventory for utility systems. Evaluate vendor AMC (Annual Maintenance Contracts) for equipment like chillers and compressors, ensuring performance SLAs are met.
Documentation & Audit Readiness: Maintain daily utility logs, root cause analysis (RCA) reports for utility failures, and update the CMMS/SAP system. Keep the department audit-ready for ISO 9001, 14001, and 45001.
Required Experience & Qualifications
Education: Bachelor s Degree or Diploma in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering.
Experience: 5+ years of dedicated utility maintenance experience in a continuous process or large-scale manufacturing plant (e.g., Pharma, Chemicals, FMCG, Textiles, or Automotive).
